System 7.5.3 (PCI only) is a system software release that has been customized to run on specific PCI-based Macintosh desktop systems. This version of System 7.5.3 is qualified to run on the Power Macintosh 7200, 7500, 8500, and 9500 series of desktop computers. System 7.5.3 (PCI only) is a full system software release that will install on a PCI-based Macintosh computer whether or not a System Folder exists. System 7.5.3 (PCI only) will only be available to customers with new PCI-based Macintosh computers.
How does System 7.5.3 (PCI only) differ from System 7.5 Update 2.0?
System 7.5 Update 2.0 gives customers a one-step, easy solution to update all of their Macintosh computers running versions 7.5, 7.5.1 or 7.5.2 of Macintosh System 7.5, including the PCI-based Macintosh computers, and bring them up to the latest version of the Mac OS--System 7.5.3. In addition, System 7.5 Update 2.0 enables support professionals to create one System Folder that can boot any Macintosh. System 7.5 Update 2.0 can only be installed on a computer that already has a System 7.5 System Folder.
Most of the core system software components (including the System and Finder) are the same in System 7.5.3 (PCI only) and System 7.5 Update 2.0. However, there are several fixes for non-PCI-based systems and a few updated system software components in the update that are not included with the System 7.5.3 (PCI only) release. Three of the updated system software components in the update include Apple Video Player 1.4, Apple Guide 2.0.2, and the Ethernet Compatibility Extension 1.0.3.
